President’s Active Lifestyle Award
Spread the word! In partnership with the First Lady’s Let’s Move initiative and the President’s Council, Girls on the Run is working toward getting more folks moving because we all know…it does a spirit good! We’ve pledged to recruit 25,000 participants and we need your help!
Here are the goals:
Adults (that’s anyone aged 18 and older): You need to be active 30 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week, for 6 out of 8 weeks. As an alternative, you can count your daily activity steps using a pedometer (goal: 8,500).
Kids and teens (that’s anyone between 6 and 17 years): You need to be active 60 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week, for 6 out of 8 weeks. As an alternative, you can count your daily activity steps using a pedometer (girls’ goal: 11,000; boys’ goal: 13,000).
There are two ways to participate:
Online registration: Register to participate by creating an account and tracking your progress online. http://www.presidentschallenge.org/gotr/
Paper Registration: Track you progress on paper and mail your completed paper forms to our office. Click here for the paper registration form.
If we reach our goal of 25,000 participants, GOTRI will select council at random to receive an award. The winning council will chose from 3 options:
*An event with Molly
*One free 2012 Summit registration and 3 nights hotel stay
*$1,000 cash reward
“I just wanted to write to tell you Thank You !! This organization you created is wonderful…. My daughter gained so much from the meetings and get-togethers. I am so very proud of her, but she is proud of herself!! She has gained so much from you and GOTR and I can’t thank you enough. I wish it ran all year long. There are some things I know she won’t talk to me about, but this gives her the opportunity to talk about things and hear others input without the worry of what mom might say. I think you have helped thousands of girls with this program and gave them something to feel proud of.. She is so ready to do another run and has been running around our neighborhood. I can’t imagine the amount of work and dedication that goes into creating something like this, so I thank you for being dedicated for my daughter and giving her something in her life to build her self esteem and make her proud of herself and her accomplishments.”
~ GOT Parent
Dear parents, guardians, family members, and friends,
First, Girls on the Run would like to thank you:
On behalf of all the Girls on the Run coaches we would like to thank you for allowing us to be part of all these amazing girls’ lives! We are fortunate to spend 1 ½ hours twice a week laughing, running, walking, and being silly while both the coaches and girls are getting stronger emotionally, physically, spiritually, and socially! What a true gift it is to be part of this program for everyone involved. We hope you find it as rewarding for yourself as we do for us and the girls!
* Some information about these weekly emails:
Weekly email communication will be posted on our website under a new category called “Parents Corner”, in case you would like to revisit any of our lesson topics. These “conversation starters” are merely that; a way to break the ice about what happened at GOTR. Sometimes it may be hard for the girls to recap what fun games were played, lesson topics, etc., after such an action-packed 1 ½ hours! Please use these questions or suggestions to help you get the conversation started, but please don’t stop there! Feel free to fill in the gaps (or let your Girl on the Run fill in the gaps) with a recount of the afternoon. But be aware, sometimes she may say, “What happens in GOTR stays in GOTR”. That is one of our first topics that Girls on the Run is a safe place to open up and speak freely, so please try to respect that promise the girls will make to one another.
As always, your team coaches as well as Carrie and Jennifer, are here to help make this journey the best it can be for each and every girl. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have throughout the lesson. Remember to visit our website for any updates and events that may be coming up for Girls on the Run! We also encourage the girls to check out the “Girl Zone”! www.gotrlancaster.org.
From everyone at Girls on the Run of Lancaster, we want to THANK YOU!
